Woven Rayon Fabrics
What Is Rayon and How Is It Made?
Rayon is a semi-synthetic fabric made from natural cellulose fibers, typically derived from wood pulp, cotton linter, or bamboo. The cellulose is chemically processed and transformed into a soft, breathable, and versatile textile often used in dresses, blouses, linings, scarves, and lightweight garments. The rayon production process involves dissolving the plant-based pulp into a viscous solution, which is then extruded through spinnerets to form fibers. These fibers are regenerated into threads, washed, and spun into rayon fabric. The result is a smooth, drapey material that mimics the feel of silk but is more affordable and easier to care for. Popular in the world of fashion fabrics, rayon is available in many types, including viscose rayon, modal, lyocell, and cupro, each with its own texture and use.
