Double Gauze Fabric
What Is Double Gauze Fabric and How Is It Made? Double gauze is a soft, lightweight cotton fabric made from two layers of loosely woven gauze that are tacked together at regular intervals. These tiny stitches are almost invisible, creating a single fabric with a crinkled texture and airy, breathable feel. Originally popular in Japan, double gauze fabric is known for its softness, breathability, and gentle drape, making it perfect for baby blankets, swaddles, dresses, blouses, loungewear, and warm-weather clothing. The two layers of gauze are made from 100% cotton, which is woven in an open, airy weave. After weaving, the layers are attached during the finishing process, giving double gauze its signature feel — light yet substantial, soft yet strong. Many versions are also pre-washed, reducing shrinkage and enhancing softness.
