This is a stunningly beautiful shirt when fully embroidered, and a simple peasant blouse if you choose to forego the embellishments. Add your own character to this classic European peasant blouse with traditional handwork techniques or modern embellishments. The graceful shape of this simply cut peasant blouse can be accentuated by your choice of fabric, for a simple contemporary look, although it is traditionally characterized by the variety and beauty of its handwork.

The Romanian Blouse has a gathered neckline, underarm gussets, and sleeves that can be worn ¾ or full length, with a self-formed deep ruffled cuff, gathered at the wrist, or hanging loose. Our "one size" pattern will busts up to 40" (102cm). Optional designs and instructions are included for: embroidery (sleeves and front of blouse), smocking at neck and wrists, crocheted edges for neckline and wrists, handmade drawstring cord, and for sewing the entire blouse by hand, using insertion stitch and decorative hem-stitching. Any or all of these techniques can be made with the casings for drawstrings and purchased braid.
