The Eastwood Pajamas are, at first glance, a basic pair of pajama bottoms…you’ll probably find a comfortably well-worn pair of something similar in most men’s closets. However, the mix and match details were carefully constructed to offer a number of choices to suit any wearer, skill level, or sewing mood! Pajama pants need not be boring to sew - these pants will teach you many of the essential techniques for sewing jeans and trousers in the future. Choose between many details or almost none and you will still wind up with a cozy pair of bottoms with a nice modern fit -- not too baggy, but loose enough to be completely comfortable. They feature an enclosed elastic waistband with the option of a functional drawstring to further perfect the fit: the instructions include a few methods for adding the elastic to your waistband so you can experiment with which way you like most!

Variation 1 is quick, with minimal details: simple pajama bottoms that are an ideal batch sew for all the men in your family at Christmas, or an excellent first-time garment for a sewing instructor to walk their student through. They feature an encased elastic waist (simply fold over the fabric, stitch and then insert the elastic), inseam pockets, a plain front with no drawstring or fly and no extra topstitching.
Variation 2 features a moderate amount of details: Try this variation if you want to practice your topstitching, love the look of a fly without quite so much effort (hooray mock fly!), and want a functional drawstring. They feature topstitching along the seat seam for added strength.
Variation 3 has all the bells and whistles and makes a great practice run before sewing your first pair of jeans! Add a back patch pocket (just as you would for jeans), create a fully functioning button fly and then sew all the detailed topstitching included in Variation 2.

Of course, there is nothing stopping you from mix and matching - for instance, you could topstitch the seat seam on Variation 1, add a patch pocket to Variation 2, or skip the drawstring on Variation 3. Let your patience, skill level, and fabric choice help you to decide which elements you would like to add or avoid: the choice of how detailed you’d like to get with these pajamas is all yours!

Recommended Fabrics:
Light to medium weight wovens such as quilting cotton, flannel, shirting, linen, or other comfortable and breathable natural materials. If you choose a directional print or prints you would like to match on seams (such as plaids), you will likely need more fabric than suggested.

-1.5” wide elastic for the waistband (see chart)
-1.7 yards double fold bias tape of any width for binding inside the waistband: you can use premade or make your own!
-For the optional Button Fly, you will need one approx. ½” button and .4 yards of fusible interfacing.
-For the optional drawstring, you will need 2” x 4” fusible interfacing to reinforce the buttonholes and 1.9 y of grosgrain ribbon, twill tape or cording, in a width and material to suit your type preference.

Sizes: XS-4XL
Difficulty: Beginner and Up.
